High Ball Heroes
Catching high balls only, with a loud call and hands high. Heading is never allowed.
Groups of three, 5 m apart: the feeder throws high, the catcher calls Keeper! and catches with hands high, the chaser follows in.
Set up
- Space groups of three 5 m apart. One feeder, one catcher, one chaser.
Groups of three; 10 m by 10 m per group.
How to play
- The feeder throws the ball underarm, above head height.
- The catcher calls keeper!, steps forward and catches with hands high.
- The chaser jogs towards the catcher but never touches or jumps.
- Rotate every five throws.
- The ball is always caught. Heading is never allowed.
Keeping everyone moving
Everyone has a job. Roles rotate often.
Make it easier
- Chest-height throws.
- No chaser.
Make it harder
- Catch at the highest point.
- Catch and then roll it out.
Three things to say
- Call loudly.
- Hands high, thumbs close together behind the ball.
- Bring it into your chest.
Words that work: "Brave call!", "Great high hands!", "Nice feeding, well done!"
Colts habit
Leadership, the call keeper!
Both feet
Take off from either foot.
Heads up
Track the ball in the air.
