Beat the Press
Back to goal, receive, first touch away, spin, drive five metres and stop it dead in a zone.
Back to a two-marker goal; take your first touch away from the pressure, spin, drive 5 m and stop the ball dead in the zone.
Set up
- Stand with your back to a goal (two markers). A wall or a grown-up feeds the ball to you. Mark a zone 5 metres away.
Garden, park.
How to play
- First touch out of your feet and away, spin, then drive 5 metres and stop it dead in the zone.
- Imagine a defender right behind you. Protect the ball and stay calm.
- Count your clean turn-and-drives in a row with no heavy touches. Then do it on your practice-foot side.
Make it easier
Make it harder
- A grown-up follows you as a gentle defender.
Three things to say
- Use the first touch to create space, then explode away from where the defender is.
Colts habit
Work hard: little and often beats one long go.
Both feet
Do a round with the practice foot only.
Heads up
Look up between touches.
Safety: Pick a clear, flat space, look out for traffic and hazards, and stop if anything hurts. Soft ball indoors.
My best
Best streak of clean turn-and-drives, on each side. Last time and this time. Only ever compared with your own earlier go, never with anyone else. Saved on this device only.
