Out of the Air
Balls don't always arrive on the floor, so you need to control bouncing balls too.
Set up
- Warm up for 3 minutes: easy wall controls.
Garden, park.
How to play
- Throw the ball up and cushion it with your foot. Catch after one touch.
- Thigh control: throw it up, cushion on your thigh, then catch. 10 times.
- Chest (gentle): toss it up, let it drop onto your chest and down to your feet. 8 times.
- Grown-up feed: a grown-up gently throws to you. Control it dead in one touch and pass back. 2 minutes.
Make it easier
Make it harder
- Control plus turn: control the thrown ball and turn in the same move.
- Two surfaces: first touch on the thigh, second touch a pass. Keep it smooth.
- Higher feed: bigger throws so you have to judge the bounce.
Three things to say
- Soft foot, ball close.
- Judge the bounce, then cushion.
Colts habit
Work hard: little and often beats one long go.
Both feet
Do a round with the practice foot only.
Heads up
Look up between touches.
For your birth year
Pick a birth year to show the tweak for that group.
- 2016 to 2017
- Foot cushions 15 times.
- 2018 to 2019
- Foot cushions 10 times.
Safety: Gentle throws only, below head height. No heading, ever. Clear space away from windows.
Keeping score: Not counted. Tick the drills you did today.
