Speed and Control
Running fast is no good if you lose the ball. Control always comes first.
Set up
- Warm up for 3 minutes: easy push-and-runs.
- Mark two points about 10 giant steps apart.
Garden, park.
How to play
- Speed-dribble there, stop dead, turn, come back. 2 minutes.
- Sudden stop: at top speed, stop the ball with your sole, then explode away.
- Slalom run: 4 markers in a line. Run the ball through them quickly. 4 runs.
- Stop on a clap: dribble fast. On a clap, stop dead in one touch. 2 minutes.
Make it easier
Make it harder
- Time the slalom: beat your own best run through the markers.
- Finish it: end each run with a turn and a pass to the wall.
- Tighter markers: move the slalom markers closer together.
Three things to say
- Big touches in the space, quick feet to stop.
Colts habit
Work hard: little and often beats one long go.
Both feet
Do a round with the practice foot only.
Heads up
Look up between touches.
For your birth year
Pick a birth year to show the tweak for that group.
- 2016 to 2017
- Sudden stop 10 times.
- 2018 to 2019
- Sudden stop 8 times.
Safety: Pick a clear, flat space, look out for traffic and hazards, and stop if anything hurts. Soft ball indoors.
My best
Slalom time. Last time and this time. Only ever compared with your own earlier go, never with anyone else. Saved on this device only.
