Set up
- Mark a grid with 4 goals, one on each side.
- Two teams. For the youngest, play 3v3 in a smaller square.
Balls, bibs, cones and nets. Grid about 40 by 40 with 4 goals.
How to play
- Teams play a directional game.
- Teams can score in any of the 4 nets but not the same one twice in a row.
- Ball out: dribble it back in. A ball bank with the coach keeps play going.
Keeping everyone moving
For the 2018s to 2021s play it at 3v3 with a ball bank and no scores kept.
Make it easier
Make it harder
- Each team can now only score in two nets, diagonal or directional (3 minutes).
- Reduce to 1 goal at each end.
- First-touch finish.
- Increase or decrease the number of touches.
Three things to say
- Timing and weight of passes, good first touch.
- Receive with an open body to go forward.
- Movement off the ball to give options.
Colts habit
Lift each other: call the free goal for a teammate.
Both feet
Practice-foot goals count double.
Heads up
Find the goal nobody is guarding.
The Colts change: For the 2018s to 2021s play it at 3v3 with a ball bank and no scores kept.
A young leader can run this one, with an adult coach beside them.
Safety: Keep the area clear of bags and bottles. Stay on your feet, no slide tackles. No heading.
Keeping score: Each child keeps their own count and tries to beat it next time. Nothing is compared between children.
