Colts Street Football Pass, Receive, Heads Up Lift each other

8 Goal Game set-up, from the Irish FA Grassroots Resource Booklet

Set up

  • Spread 8 small nets (or cone gates) around the outside of the area.
  • Two teams. For the youngest, 3v3 in a small square.

Balls, bibs, cones and nets. Eight small nets spread around the outside of the playing area.

How to play

  • Score as many goals as possible in 3 minutes, but you cannot score in the same goal twice in a row.
  • Play 2 rounds.

Keeping everyone moving

For the 2018s to 2021s play it at 3v3 with a ball bank and no scores kept.

Make it easier

Make it harder

  • 3 passes before you can score in any net.
  • 4 passes before you can score.
  • Only score in certain nets.
  • All in.
  • First-touch finish.

Three things to say

  • Weight, timing and accuracy of passes.
  • Body shape to receive and switch play.
  • Wall passes, short and long passes.

Colts habit

Lift each other: passer and scorer share the goal.

Both feet

Practice-foot goals count double.

Heads up

Switch to the goal on the other side.

The Colts change: For the 2018s to 2021s play it at 3v3 with a ball bank and no scores kept.

A young leader can run this one, with an adult coach beside them.

Safety: Keep the area clear of bags and bottles. Stay on your feet, no slide tackles. No heading.

Keeping score: Each child keeps their own count and tries to beat it next time. Nothing is compared between children.
