Dribbling Grid (cone lines)
Also called Dribbling Grid (technical version)
Move the ball from cone to cone in a 5-yard space, with a different way of moving it each time.

Set up
- Set out lines of cones 5 yards apart.
- Players stand between cones with a ball each.
5-yard lines of cones, all players with a ball each.
How to play
- Players work in the 5-yard space and move from cone to cone manipulating the ball in different ways.
- The coach shows how to move: right foot only, left foot only, sole of the foot, outside of the foot, inside of the foot, toe taps, side to side, roll across the body, different turns at the cone, big toe and baby toe.
Make it easier
Make it harder
- Players dribble around the grid going from cone to cone, and every time they get to a cone they must change direction: left, right or diagonal.
- Pair the players up, one chasing and one escaping. The pairs start at different areas of the grid and move from cone to cone. Play for 1 minute or until the player is caught, then swap roles.
Three things to say
- Small soft touches, ball under control.
- Look around while dribbling, head up.
- Comfortable using both feet and different parts of the feet.
Colts habit
Work hard: every cone, every touch.
Both feet
Every move on both feet.
Heads up
Look at the next cone, not the ball.
A young leader can run this one, with an adult coach beside them.
Safety: Keep the area clear of bags and bottles. Stay on your feet, no slide tackles. No heading.
Keeping score: Each child keeps their own count and tries to beat it next time. Nothing is compared between children.
