Follow the Leader
A pairs copy-and-escape game that ends with the leader dribbling under pressure.
Set up
- Mark a 25 by 25 grid.
- In pairs, players number themselves 1 and 2. Number 1 is the leader and 2 the follower.
25 by 25 grid (depending on numbers). Players split into pairs, without a ball, then with a ball each, or between them.
How to play
- Number 2 follows number 1 around the grid and copies number 1's movements.
- On the coach's call, 1 must escape from 2, and 2 has to stay close to 1.
- On stop, all players freeze. If player 2 is within touching distance they get a point. If not, player 1 gets a point. Reverse roles.

- Repeat the game with both players dribbling a ball.
- Only the leader has a ball and is chased by their partner without a ball, to mimic a game.

Lift each other: invent moves your partner can copy.
Both feet
Leader dribbles with the practice foot.
Heads up
Followers watch the leader, leaders watch the space.
A young leader can run this one, with an adult coach beside them.
Safety: Keep the area clear of bags and bottles. Stay on your feet, no slide tackles. No heading.
Keeping score: Each child keeps their own count and tries to beat it next time. Nothing is compared between children.
