Sharks and Fish
Fish dribble across the grid while sharks in the middle try to tag them.

Set up
- Mark a 20 by 20 grid with central cones.
- The fish all have a ball and start at one end. The sharks start in the middle in line with the central cones.
20 by 20 grid. Players divided into Sharks and Fish.
How to play
- The fish try to dribble the ball to the opposite end of the grid without being tagged by the sharks.
- When the fish get to the opposite side they wait on the coach's call before dribbling back.
- If a fish gets caught, five toe taps and back in. New sharks every few runs by lucky dip.
Keeping everyone moving
The booklet turns caught fish into sharks until one is left. At Colts, caught means five toe taps and back in, and sharks change by lucky dip.
Make it easier
Make it harder
- Fish can only dribble using a certain foot or part of their foot.
- Sharks have to get the fish's ball and kick it out of the grid. Fetch it, five toe taps, back in.
Three things to say
- Keep the ball close and under control.
- Head up to see where the sharks are.
- Decide when to dribble and when to run with the ball.
Colts habit
Be brave: go past a shark, not round the outside.
Both feet
Cross with the practice foot.
Heads up
Look at the sharks, not the ball.
The Colts change: The booklet turns caught fish into sharks until one is left. At Colts, caught means five toe taps and back in, and sharks change by lucky dip.
A young leader can run this one, with an adult coach beside them.
Safety: Keep the area clear of bags and bottles. Stay on your feet, no slide tackles. No heading.
Keeping score: Each child keeps their own count and tries to beat it next time. Nothing is compared between children.
