Varied SSG
Four teams on two pitches, each attacking a different kind of goal, switching every five minutes.

Set up
- Set out two 25 by 25 pitches. Pitch 1: mini goals at one end and an end zone at the other. Pitch 2: a big goal at one end and mini goals at the other.
- Four teams of 4, 5 or 6. For the youngest, 3v3.
Balls, bibs, cones and nets. 50 by 50 as two 25 by 25 grids. Four teams playing at the same time.
How to play
- All four teams play at the same time on two different pitches.
- On pitch 1, one team attacks the mini goals and defends the end zone. On pitch 2, one team attacks the big goal and defends the mini goals.
- Switch every 5 minutes to play a different team and attack a different side.
Keeping everyone moving
For the 2018s to 2021s play it at 3v3 with a ball bank and no scores kept.
Make it easier
Make it harder
- On your pitch, every time you score you attack the opposite end.
- Take out the halfway line and play 8v8, still attacking side to side.
Three things to say
- Encourage 1v1s and beating defenders.
- Speed, dribbling and running with the ball, types of shot.
- Forward passes, forward runs, high tempo.
Colts habit
Work hard: high tempo, do everything quickly.
Both feet
Practice-foot goals count double.
Heads up
Check what you are attacking after every switch.
The Colts change: For the 2018s to 2021s play it at 3v3 with a ball bank and no scores kept.
A young leader can run this one, with an adult coach beside them.
Safety: Keep the area clear of bags and bottles. Stay on your feet, no slide tackles. No heading.
Keeping score: Each child keeps their own count and tries to beat it next time. Nothing is compared between children.
