Rescue and Turn
Also called Five Second Rescue
A grown-up pokes the ball away, the child wins it back, turns and dribbles through the shoe goal.
A shoe goal a few steps behind the grown-up; your child dribbles in, you poke the ball away, and they win it back, turn and dribble through the goal.
Set up
- Make a shoe goal a few steps behind you.
Garden or park.
How to play
- Your child dribbles towards you.
- Gently poke the ball away and say Rescue!
- Your child wins it back and turns.
- They dribble through the shoe goal.
- Try 10 rescues.

- Walk back to guard the goal after you poke the ball.
Three things to say
- Win it, then turn and go straight away.
Colts habit
Work hard: straight after it every time.
Both feet
Turn with the practice foot every other go.
Heads up
Look for the goal as you turn.
Safety: Touch the ball only, at walking pace. No slide tackles.
